Are you in search of ways to earn money from home? Or are you looking for a little (or a lot) extra to help with the bills? Do you have family members you would like to help financially?
Me too! I would like to help my elderly mother afford to stay in her home. She has been diagnosed with Progressive SupraNuclear Palsy (similar to Parkinson’s Disease) and Lewy Body Dementia. Her savings are quickly diminishing due to the expense of in-home 24 hour care.
My desire to help my mom brought me to the internet in search of ways to earn an extra income. Over the past few years, I have tried different routes with minimal success. I signed up on a website that promised to find me a work-from-home job. This was suppose to give me access to the many work-from-home positions available to me. I certainly received an abundance of suggestions by email, but most (if not all) were not useful. It also led to many daily calls from for-profit schools suggesting I enroll. I have nothing against furthering my education, but that was not what I was looking for. (I currently have a Bachelor’s degree and am certified to teach elementary education. I no longer teach, but did work in education for 20+ years)
My First Attempts at Making/Saving Money
I’ve dabbled in an assortment of money making/money saving adventures. I have sold items on craigslist, ebay and other online sites. This was/is a great way to make a few extra dollars (on average,I see an extra $100 a month selling online), but certainly not enough to help support my mother. Various savings apps (shopkick, ibotta, cartwheel etc.) have found their way onto my phone and although I am happy with many of them, I need more. I even tried doing surveys online – I do not recommend this. It requires a lot of time for very little cash 🙁
I Needed to Think Bigger!
As time went by, I began to understand that the best way to use the internet to my advantage was by developing my own website and using it to promote products I believe in and trust. This is when I first heard of Affiliate Marketing! Normally, I would dismiss this idea as something impossible for me since I have no experience in this area, but I knew I needed to think big if I wanted to help my mom.
Learning about Affiliate Marketing was an Ah-ha moment for me! I began researching and became excited about the possibilities. Unfortunately, I knew nothing about how to create a website and couldn’t find information that a beginner could follow and understand. I found sites where I could pay for help but I am terrified of being scammed and losing money. I was beginning to believe that I was not going to be able to create my own website because I lacked the knowledge. Did I need to enrolled in one of those colleges that were incessantly calling me to learn more about computers, website creating, and earning money online? If I want to help my mom in her final years, I do not have the time to go back to school.
Choosing Wealthy Affiliate
Eventually, I came across Wealthy Affiliate. After researching and reading various reviews, I was very interested. Wealthy Affiliate promised to provide step by step training, 2 free websites, and a community of support from thousands of members. However, I was still nervous about jumping in. My strong fear of being scammed remained and I would have not signed up if not for the Free Starter Membership. There was nothing to lose (I didn’t need to give them my credit card information), so I signed up.
The Starter Membership is suppose to provide me with everything I need to create my own website and start earning an income. There is also a Premium Membership for a monthly fee, but many stick with the Starter Membership. I hope this is true because the Premium membership is $47 a month.
From what I have researched, I feel this may be the best place for me, as someone with no experience, to learn and succeed at affiliate marketing. I assume WA could also benefits those with experience, but its step by step direction and training appeal to a newbie like me.
I would like to add, I am happy that Wealthy Affiliate does not promote this as a “get rich quick scheme”. They tell you up front that it does require training and time to build your website and to then attract traffic to your site before you start seeing a profit. I have read where some members have created their websites and started making commissions within a couple of months, but I believe it probably takes most people 6 months or more before their website begins to see the traffic needed to earn money. I believe I have the patience, willingness, and a strong motivation to put forth hard work. I am hoping WA is all the help I need to make it happen. I plan on honestly documenting my experience with WA here in hopes to help others decide if they would like to join.
Please feel free to leave comments or questions. I would love to hear from you 🙂
